What to do with a manipulative friend that gives you self serving advice?

A friend and I have known each other for years, going back to before high school. In the last few year's she's become very manipulative with her friends, me included. She'll try to influence her friends to make certain decisions that favor her needs through lies and gossip. In the latest instance, she's giving me advice about a person I'm dating. Not surprisingly, it turns out the ';advice'; blatantly benefits her more than me, and in fact would have the effect of impeding any progress I might make with my date.





How should I handle my relationship with my friend? Right now, I just put up with her BS b/c being her friend exposes me to her larger social circle.What to do with a manipulative friend that gives you self serving advice?
You are your own person and therefore should be able to make your own decisions with or without her advice. Nonetheless, do listen to what she does say as she probably receives some ego rush from it all. However, it seems to me just as much as she is using you for her own benefit you are using her since you also say ';Right now, I just put up with her BS b/c being her friend exposes me to her larger social circle.'; So lets be honest, you are just as guilty as her.
