What is the wisest piece of advice you have been given?

My friend once told me when dealing with whatever my teenage soon throws at me;

1. always keep a sense of humour.

2. choose the battles wisely.

3. whatever your teenager throws at you always remember you have taught them well.

And a Spiritual teacher once told me to not to look for faults in others but only look for faults in myself and rid my mind of these faults.

These are what i consider the best pieces of advice given to me, what are yours???What is the wisest piece of advice you have been given?
Stand up fo what you believe...Even if you're standing aloneWhat is the wisest piece of advice you have been given?
Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter. From Dr. Seuss.
if you clip a birds wing, it will only want to fly away (metaphorically)
Don't let your hard head get your tender a** into something it can't handle.
Don't marry her!
to gain as much wisdom and knowledge as possible and to follow what I believe in my own heart is the truth, but to always respect the free will and rights of others who believe differently
There's always someone prettier,richer,poorer,tougher than you etc.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.
To be good to yourself and others around you.

To keep a journal...my granny told me this.
Some of the best advice I have gotten is to be my own best friend. That means that I get up in the morning and look in the mirror and say ';Hello friend'; to my reflection. Then I have to remember that I am not going to criticize myself today but I will be as my own best friend.

Next, I would say to be myself and not concern myself with what others think. Of course this has boundaries. I want to try and do what is right.

Also, and you might not hear this everyday but I have learned it is important to stand up for oneself and not take ';guff'; off of people.

This to has boundaries but you don't let people mistreat you in any way.
Don't step in bear s**t
a man who has to look at porn in place of women isn't really a man
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow faintly dim, in the light of His Glory and Grace.

I know these are words of a song. but to me they have helped me so much.

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Happy New Year
';Don't ask that crazy b**ch to marry you!!!!';
Switch you computer off and answer the f**ing phone

Think before you act and always trust people to be themselves ie cowards will cower and brave people will fill early graves
Love, and do what you will. (St Augustine)
My mother always told me to keep my own book clean. And my minister told me that if a man says he loves you, and doesn't act in a loving manner, then he is lying. A loving man loves you.
My dad told me not to argue with people, that you can't change their minds, so just agree with whatever they say and then when they leave do it your own way. It's made it a very peaceful life.
As a teenager my oldest brother gave me ';the talk';. He told me that a guy will tell me anything they think I will want to hear, to get me where they want me, and it could take only 15 minutes to ruin my life. In college I saw that so often and was glad that I had that playing in my head and could see right through it. Not profound but great advice.
seek wisdom and knowledge.
eat less do mor live longer
Do the right thing even when no one is watching
Be the judge of your own self only, and let God Judge the rest.
Worship God and follow His messenger, and be blessed!

Come to me as you are.Christ.
My golden nuggets:

1. Your emotions can be affected by, but are not controlled by the action of others. Ultimately, you must choose and control your emotional state/reactions.

2. You create your own destiny. The only limitations put upon you are those you self-impose.

3. (This was from a supervisor while working in collections, but to me it had a much broader mystical implication.) ASK WITH EXPECTATION!

4. Act as if.... Act as if you have already achieved the end result.

5. Believe.

6. And finally a mantra I've created for myself:

Visualize, Actualize, Realize. - See the end result. Take actions that move toward that result. Realize the successful accomplishment of your goal.
