Treadmill owners, what advice can you give?

Are they hard to assemble?

What about maintenance? Do you have to eventually replace certain parts?

How much are the lower priced QUALITY treadmills? What brands are good?

go outside instead, there is no cost, no maintenance and will not break down. I had one and got rid of it (it was a waste of $2000 ). It was boring to run on the treadmill and was unmotivating for me, felt unnatural and it ended up in the basement collecting dust (eventually sold it for 400). I now love running outdoors in all seasons, on roads, trails with friends and running club members and the after run socials. As long as your dressed for it, its great. But if you must...go to a sports/fitness store, get a better quality treadmill. It really depends what type of a runner you are and what features you want. Maybe go to the gym and try out the treadmills for awhile and see what you do and don't like.

I swore when I bought the treadmill, that I would use it all the time.

They aren't that hard to assemble, but it depends on the company you buy it from. Maintenance usually isn't a problem because a lot of treadmills have a lifetime warranty on the motors, and good length warranties on the belts, rollers, etc. You don't usually have to replace parts on the treadmill for a while. It really depends on how much your going to use it.

Lowest priced treadmills go anywhere from $400 to $1300. Mid is $1000 to $3000. Expensive is $3000+.

The best lower priced treadmills are Smooth Treadmills from Smooth Fitness, Trimline is a little more expensive, but warranties are great. Proform Treadmills are pretty cheap, but not the best quality...It's still a good alternative.
As a treadmill owner, I can give you the following advice:

1) Don't buy a treadmill. No matter how much you think you'll use it, you won't. A cheap treadmill still costs less than a 12 month gym membership and you can cancel the gym membership but the treadmill will still be in your basement gathering dust forever. Run on the roads and you will be a much happier person. I don't care if it is cold, running outside beats the treadmill every day of the week and twice on sunday.
i bought a $600 model on amazon, assembly was ok. Been using it for a year when its really cold outside. Its nice to be able to get up and listen to the radio ad run when its 38 outside. Thats the only time i use it is i the winter or if im really out of shape. It helps me too because its on my carpet so its softer that running on the road. I'm flat footed.
Get an elliptical.
